Who Is The Developer Of PHP?

PHP, which stands for Hypertext Preprocessor, is a popular server-side scripting language used for web development. It was first released in 1995 by Rasmus Lerdorf, a Danish-Canadian programmer.

Lerdorf initially created PHP to track visits to his personal website. The first version of PHP was a collection of Common Gateway Interface (CGI) scripts written in the C programming language, which he called "Personal Home Page Tools."

However, as the popularity of PHP grew, Lerdorf realized that he needed help developing the language further. In 1997, he released the second version of PHP, which was a rewritten version of the language with new features and improved performance.

Around this time, two developers, Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski, became interested in PHP and joined forces with Lerdorf to continue development of the language. They rewrote the PHP engine and released PHP 3 in 1998. This new version of PHP included support for more databases, such as Oracle and Sybase, and a new module architecture that made it easier for developers to add new functionality to the language.

In 1999, Gutmans and Suraski created a company called Zend Technologies, which became the driving force behind PHP's development. They released PHP 4 in 2000, which included many new features, such as improved object-oriented programming support and a new extension API.

Zend continued to develop PHP and released PHP 5 in 2004, which was a major update to the language. It included support for a new object model, improved memory management, and many other new features.

Today, PHP is one of the most popular programming languages in the world, powering websites like Facebook, Wikipedia, and WordPress. The language continues to evolve, with the latest stable version being PHP 8.0, released in November 2020.

In summary, Rasmus Lerdorf is the original creator of PHP, but the language was further developed and improved by Andi Gutmans and Zeev Suraski, who founded Zend Technologies. Today, PHP is an open-source language with a large community of developers who continue to contribute to its ongoing development and improvement.
